Dreaming is at the heart of the shamanic practice and the dream landscape is an important part of the shamanic world view. Everything is alive and aware, including the dreamscape. Our physical reality is only one of many worlds that we have conscious access to. This is where the teachers of the spirit dwell, coming through the dreamer into our world. Our dream spirits lead and inform us and are vital to our lives. When we consciously engage with them it is to empower ourselves and our communities with meaning and relativity. This is not about analysis; it is about ongoing relationship with the invisible worlds and unconditional love.
The Art of Balance
The knowledge that marks hunter-gatherers’
relationship to their territories is an intricate
mixture of the real and the supernatural.
There are facts about things and facts about spirits
And the wall between these two kinds of entities is
not solid. People can cross from the natural to the supernatural;
Spirits can move into the human domain. Just as this divide between physical and metaphysical is permeable, so also is the boundary
between humans and animals. In this way, the
boundaries around the human world are porous.
This porosity is the way of seeing and understanding
the world that underlies shamanism.
